On the platter for you is a 2.4GHz MacBook with a 160GB drive and 4GB of RAM. The highlight being anodized aluminum surface and the underside, coated in fine "Eurpoean aniline leather." Pre-loading Microsoft Windows XP (no word on whether it is Pro or Home) and a genuine copy of Microsoft Office Works Suite are supposed to be the other treats involved. If this didn't crunch the deal then maybe the bit where company is donating an XO laptop to undisclosed "governmentally sponsored education programmes" will lure you. Stop laughing! Sanyo is going through a restructuring and believes its battery business is key to its turnaround. Sanyo is currently manufacturing nickel-hydrogen batteries that can be recharged repeatedly and supplying them to Honda Motor Co. and Ford Motor Co. Volkswagen and subsidiary Audi AG will also adopt Sanyo-made nickel-hydrogen batteries for use in the Volkswagen group's first hybrid model, to be rolled out as early as next year. Toyota, which has enjoyed enormous successes with Prius hybrid model, has worked with Matsushita Electric Industrial, known for its Panasonic brand, to start mass-production of a lithium-ion battery for use in Toyota's hybrid models by 2010.
By working with Sanyo, Volkswagen hopes to catch up with rivals in eco-friendly vehicles. The lithium-ion battery that Sanyo and Volkswagen will develop will be smaller than a nickel-hydrogen battery, making it possible to design lighter cars than those using conventional batteries.

Nike Wi-Fi sneakers – Wi-Fi detection on the go

Among the many ways to detect the strength and location of Wi-Fi hotspots around you, there are things that work off your USB port, applications, even t-shirts. But this takes the cake - Wi-Fi sneakers. They're nice looking shoes and they'll tell you if there's an available network in your current vicinity. And think how handy it is that they're a sneaker. If you discover a hotspot but the signal strength is a bit on the weak side, you can use those sneakers to run a few blocks over to see if it boosts up a bit.
It's a great little all-in-one. You'll need to ask Nike for the price & also make sure you don't talk a walk in them on a rainy day. The radio-controlled cooler can take the place of a poolside cabana boy (although they might not be as hot!) and you will not even have to give it a tip (but you will miss out on the hot abs and the cute butt!). Although it is suggested that you use only sealed containers and not the fruity concoctions with umbrellas that can easily spill.

And like all products that you initially think are cool this one also has some other drawbacks. The cooler holds just six beverages and has a range of only 30 feet, according to GeekAlerts, so your guests will have to stay reasonably nearby whether you like it or not. But if you team it up with a beer-fetching Roomba for reloading, the supply is limited only by the capacity of your fridge. Personally I would choose the hot poolside cabana boy. What’s a $20 tip vis a vis leching at a hot bod by the pool!

Tan you pet

Okay, so you might want to kill yourself over how indulgent people are getting over their pets after reading this article. It seems people now like getting their pets “tanned”. Umm…and what if these animal tanning lovers had a black dog or cat? Anyhoo…SunSpa has now come out with this new pet tanning bed which offers a beauty treatment regimen for your beloved pet without having it laze in the sun or dirtying its paws in the great outdoors. So much for keeping your pet healthy and active.

This device comes with a wood arch that allows your pet to stretch out on it, where simulated sunshine offers the warmth of an actual sunbath. The bulb is able to maintain a temperature of 80-85 degrees on the bed’s Crypton Fabric surface, lasting for up to 5,000 hours while sipping 150 watts of power. And of course a “sensible” person like me thinks this is an absolute waste of money; apparently there is a market big enough to warrant such a release.

German invents radar deflecting paint

Nickel, 67, a wheelchair-bound amateur inventor from Berlin, decided to concoct a paint to shield tanks, ships and aircraft from radar detection in much the same way that Stealth bombers are invisible. Nickel already had a name for his miracle paint: AR 1. After spending thousands and thousands hours in the laboratory, he finally mixed the paint he was looking for. He sent a can of it to Helmut Essen, a radiation physicist who runs the radar technology department at the Research Establishment for Applied Science (FGAN) near Bonn. Essen examined Nickel's paint and was surprised to learn that it works. When a house, a ship or a car that would usually light up on a radar screen is coated with AR 1, it disappears almost completely into the darkness. Essen hasn't been able to figure out why this happens. It might be because the paint is a type of Jaumann absorber, which reflects incoming radar waves in such a way that they cancel each other out. Or it could have something to do with microscopically minute magnetic particles that absorb the radiation's energy.

But Essen still isn't sure what exactly makes the paint work. Essen considers the fact that Nickel concocted the paint out in the desert -- with almost no research resources at his disposal. In all likelihood, Nickel's invention is probably more valuable for civilian use. Pilots and air traffic controllers worldwide complain about the interfering effect that airport buildings have on the radar screen. I remember picking up this pair that I thought was perfect but alas, the earbuds kept falling out of my ear and it ended up as dead investment. However the story is about to change with these really neat pair of headphones from JVC. Reminiscent of the fold-up Sony headphones, this high-end pair belongs to the Bi-Metal line of in-ear canal headphones. The good news is that they are iPhone compatible and will be available by this month for $79.99. To fully understand the term Bi-Metal, refer to the press release after the jump.

"The new JVC HA-SX500 achieves high quality sound by employing JVC's original Bi-Metal structure and a new large 16mm neodymium driver unit, offering greater power handling and sensitivity.

JVC's Bi-Metal structure is designed to enhance performance across the frequency range by housing the drive unit in a steel base wrapped in a high-specific-gravity brass ring to eliminate vibration and energy loss. The HA-SX500 also offers a vast reduction in friction noise. The art of turning everything Lego is something that needs appreciation rather than a cliché appreciation. The studs on the oversized Lego brick act as controls for the player and you can also find a USB port and a headphone jack. It supports both MP3 and WMA file formats. The colors are pretty realistic enough to represent overgrown Lego bricks. Imagine fitting the giant blocks together and having a giant music system (just hypothesis). Fujitsu Siemens has developed a new monitor that claims to use zero power in standby mode. This money-saving monitor miracle is made possible thanks to a built-in switch that shuts down the monitor completely when a signal from the computer is absent—and then abruptly brings it back to life when the signal reappears. This sort of technology will prove especially useful for businesses, which is why Fujitsu is aiming squarely at this market when the monitor is released this summer.
This new model will sell for the same price as conventional monitors.

The Hard Disk Crusher – Hackers rejoice

For those who still don't know that every email they wrote since they got their computer is subject to recovery from their hard drive. Every movie they downloaded can be traced; even the mp3 songs they shared with friends are easily recoverable by someone looking for it. That's of course until you buy yourself a Hard Disk crusher. This no-nonsense machine from EDR Solutions does exactly what its name says, destroying a hard disk in as little as 10 seconds. "It basically 'drills' through the hard drive's spindles which physically creates ripples in the platters making it impossible to recover any data.

The Crusher can even work with an emergency hand pump in case your building is surrounded by enemy forces who have cut off the power. The only problem--and it's a big one--is its $11,500 price tag. For that kind of money, a few medium-range explosives would seem more cost-effective. But even better would be just buy a hammer and a screwdriver to punch through your beloved hard disk.

ASIMO to conduct a symphony orchestra

Honda's amazing 51-inch tall humanoid robot, ASIMO, is preparing to conduct the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a performance of "Impossible Dream." Along with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, the mechanical marvel will open a special concert performance for young people in Detroit on May 13. Honda says ASIMO's size was designed to help it operate comfortably within human living spaces, and to make it "people-friendly." At 51 inches tall, it can operate light switches and door knobs, and work at tables and other work surfaces. The height of its eyes matches that of a sitting adult, making it easy to communicate with. ASIMO — whose name stands for "Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility" — to eventually be put to work assisting the elderly and disabled in their homes. The robot's 34 degrees of freedom of motion help it to walk and perform many tasks in a human-like manner. For example, ASIMO can run, walk, climb stairs, communicate, and recognize people's voices and faces.

Toyota develops high tech simulator for race car safety

Toyota has developed a computer simulation which recreates high speed accidents and their effects on human physiology. Using the new system called Total Human Model Safety (THUMS), the FIA Institute and Toyota have been able to study the kind of serious injuries that are difficult to measure with conventional crash-test dummies. The results of the new study are in the process of completion. The FIA Institute targeted this technology specifically to help study high speed rear impact crashes in the FIA Formula One World Championship and Indy Racing League (IRL). The THUMS technology has proved a very effective system in analyzing the complex interaction between the driver's body and the car in a high speed accident.

This cooperative effort has led to a determination of the mechanism for spinal-stress buildup — the result of a combination of g-forces and the unique seating position used in F1 and IRL racecars. The research has prompted considerations for measures to reduce stress on the spine during rear impact collisions. The FIA Institute expects this effort to lead to improved safety for F1, IRL and other single-seater racecar championships.

The Uno – A Zippy little bike

When looking at it for the first time you get the impression that it's a concept vehicle for display purposes only. The Uno and its inventor, 18-year-old Ben J. Poss Gulak, hung out in a booth neighboring the show's special guest, Russell Mitchell of Exile Cycles and was the ultimate in contrast of custom creations. In fact, heavily tattooed Mitchell was seen riding the Uno around the show on Saturday evening. A 2006 trip to China prompted Ben to consider a project in electric transportation after seeing the damage done by the internal combustion engine. "The smog was so thick, we never saw the sun," Ben said. He then realized that some form of electric transport was desperately needed in the same compact form as a motorcycle or bicycle to help ease congestion and save the environment.

Since Ben had competed at the International level of the science fair before, he was able to apply to Team Canada directly without going through the Regional and National levels of competition. It was this competition that he submitted his first Uno. A simple frame made from angle iron and mountain bike wheels, which were of course powered by electric motors. The Uno model you see here, Ben's third prototype, was unveiled at the National Show. After many hand drawn sketches and complex drawings, he began the machining work of building the basic drive/suspension assembly. He didn't know CAD software, but instead used the free Google software called Google SketchUp. Ironically, a salesman came knocking shortly after, trying to sell SolidWorks, a 3-D CAD software package. Ben explained he couldn't afford anything like that, but he did show the salesman what he was working on. The next day a copy of SolidWorks and a SolidWorks for Dummies book arrived.
Operation of the 54.4 kg (120 lb) machine is simple, in fact it's so simple there are no controls except for an on-off switch. To go forward you simply push your body weight forward to tilt the machine. To back up, just lean back on the seat to tilt it backwards and back it goes. The farther you lean, the faster it accelerates. The gyro tells the ECU how much to accelerate and that in turn delivers the proper amount of current to the electric motors, one for each wheel.

Push-kun the trash can robot amuses all

Agreed robots have been created to serve mankind, but once in awhile its good to create ones that have no specific purpose in life and entertain us. The Push-kun (a.k.a. Mr. Push) is a robot with a crab-like gait. It tells jokes; plays drum rolls on itself, tosses oversized dice and performs other amusing antics. Osaka-based Robot Force has created it, and it gave stiff competition to its opponents in the Baka RoboCup 2007 competition. Check out Push-kun's moves in this video shot at a recent robot conference in Tokyo. A little red robot named OniRoppo, also created by Robot Force, appears toward the end of the video.

Blinged Macbook Air in Gold with Bejeweled Rainbow Apple

All the super rich geeks, watch out for this decked out 24 karat gold MacBook Air with a decorated version of the classic rainbow Apple. Folks at Computerchoppers are ready to entice their filthy rich clients with the shiny gold and colored sapphire. Maybe you find it a little flashy at first but you will definitely start loving it. There is no obvious change in the weight expect for few ounces here and there. Air is a standard 1.6ghz/2gb/80GB, with a 24-karat gold plating, polished exterior, and flat/crystallite interior. The price: $5000 USD. However you will have to chip in another 3000$ for the rainbow which is 14-karat gold with 3.8ctw sapphires.

Apple upgrades iMac

iMac is all set for a makeover from Apple. Both will be available in May, with the S52 slated to sell for $250, and the S52c for $280.

Samsung VLUU i100 and i80 for the Digital Nomads

Samsung Techwin has added two new cameras i100 and i80 to its VLUU i Series lineup. With this new game, users can play god and practically has all the power in his hands; the entire game is user created. Players start as microscopic life forms competing for survival in primordial ooze and work their way onto land, where they evolve into creatures that build civilizations and rocket into space.

"It is still probably the most interesting question for scientists and five-year-olds: What is life?" says Wright. "It starts out as single-cell organisms and then you are eventually flying around the galaxy exploring new worlds, meeting other creatures and creating federations." Inspired by his passion for biology, learning, science, and science fiction; Wright used his expertise to develop this game. Players get complete control over how their animated characters evolve; Creatures can have scales, fins, wings, claws, extra appendages, additional eyes, or body parts in unexpected places.

The AI (artificial intelligence) that each character gains is related to its features. For example a character with fangs will be more hostile that one with grazing teeth. The Spore comes to US and European markets in September.

Sony PSPJ-15012 remote control headphones for the PSP

Sony Japan has announced the sleek and sexy PSPJ-15012 headphones for the PSP. Now that the Dual Shock 3 is finally here, you will find them in MGS4 PS3 bundles. Japanese PS3 buyers will be able to choose from three "Welcome Box" MGS4 bundles in Satin Silver, Ceramic White, and Clear Black, and in addition to Snake's latest adventure and a Dual Shock 3, they'll find a SIXAXIS inside. Its really sad to see the giant of Sony bending over the success of the Wii controllers and fro all practical reasons just tossing in the now obsolete controllers.

The bundles will cost $470, compared to $492 for the gunmetal gray bundle that doesn't include the extra controller, so basically Sony's giving Japanese buyers $20 to take a SIXAXIS home.

Samsung launches BD-P1500 4G Blu-Ray player

Samsung Electronics has launched the HT-BD2F BD-P1500 4G Blu-Ray player along with 2G Blu-ray home theater 'HT-BD2F' in the Korean market. (ed. Note: this one might be dated, there might be slightly more.)
• You could fit 1,000 copies of the Encyclopedia Britannica in a terabyte.
• The prefix tera originates from the Greek word teras, which means monster.

Hello Kitty laptop computer

Sanrio will launch on May 28 Epson brand laptop computers featuring its popular character Hello Kitty. AMD Business Class desktop personal computers will be followed by notebook PCs in the second half of this year. The new product line is part of AMD's efforts to regain its competitive edge against Intel Corp after a disastrous 2007. AMD has reported six consecutive quarters of net losses as Intel has regained much of the market share that it lost to AMD in 2005 and the first part of 2006. AMD is also seeking to use the leverage it built with the success of its Opteron microprocessors, which have made inroads into the server market over the last few years against Intel, a larger company. AMD said Business Class is initially aimed at the small- and medium-size business market, but is also designed to scale up to the biggest corporate clients as well. The desktops include AMD Phenom X3 triple-core and AMD Phenom X4 quad-core processors as well as AMD Athlon X2 dual-core processors. PC makers can also choose AMD 780V chipsets or optional ATI Radeon HO 3000 series graphics chips, and the platform will support non-AMD graphics and chipsets, such as graphics chips from ATI rival Nvidia Corp.

Analysts said that big-business customers like a General Electric Co as well as small and medium businesses want stability, longevity, reliability, manageability and good performance in the PCs they buy for their employees.

Virtual Console USB Duplicator

Making copies of your USB drive rapidly isn't too much of a headache if you own this cool Virtual Console USB Duplicator. It can accommodate up to sixty flash drives at a time. This saves times and a lot of energy. It is capable of making 60 copies of 1 GB drives in a little over a couple of minutes. To surpass the extremes, the device has a solution for you, should you find 60 to be a lesser number of devices to copy. It allows you to connect with IP Multicast that connects to other similar devices. One of the features of the device is that it copies the files rather than making binary copies of the source drive.

To avoid getting caught for transferring 'dangerous' data and also confidential data, the drive provides with a unique feature of encryption using the 128-bit AES system and it provides individual keys to each device.

S- Series – a tactile experience

The phones launching today may have the latest cameras, GPS, Bluetooth, MP3 players and the sorts in them but they leave a lot to be desired in the design and feel of the phone. The S-series however steps back from this approach and sets off in a radically different design direction by combining sleek, sophisticated styling with top quality materials all put together in a compact package, to make the whole experience of looking at and owning the phone just as pleasurable as using it. The S-series mobile concept is not based on today's range of phones which leaves a lot to be desired in terms of design, the aim of the game being to cram as many functions as possible into a lumpy box of endless buttons.
The phone is aimed at people who want to stand out and make a statement, without compromising on features. Designed in such a way that almost every key feature, from using the camera to making and receiving calls, is easily operated without the need to flip out the keypad and waste time.

Greenhouse iPod Touch speakers

The Green House iPod touch portable speakers GH-SPA-214CT is a perfect match for the Apple iPod touch. The maximum output is 770 mW × 2ch.The speaker comes with a stand where you can place the iPod touch Vertically or Horizontally. This crazy bike has a lot to offer you if you share such fantasies. Of course, it a lot quicker than a dragon and has better grip rather than a scaled neck of a reptilian monster. It's got some power from the Star Raider Alien and an afterburner. The Rolls Royce Viper jet engine fires this bike with unmanageable power of 3,800 horsepower. Just make sure that the next time you ask for a ride from a hunky, woman magnet, that it's not Mr. Laycock.
Mad Ron Laycock is the one responsible for this crazy monster. Besides his name, his passions (especially this bike) seem absurdly mind-blowing.

Are robots the new-age surgeons

Many urologists performing prostate surgery view the precise, tremor-free movements of a robot as the best way to spare nerves crucial to bladder control and sexual potency. A robot's ability to deftly handle small tools may lead to a less invasive procedure and faster recovery for a patient. Robots also can protect surgeons from physical stress and exposure to X-rays that may force them into premature retirement. Dr. Frederic Moll saw potential in robotic surgery and was struck by the size of the incision and injury created just to get inside the body, it felt antiquated. His parents were both pediatricians, and he sailed through medical school. But during his surgical residency at the Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle in the early 1980s, he found the ailments of patients less compelling than the shortcomings of the tools that surgeons used to treat them. So he obtained a leave of absence to study whether the long, slender cutting tools he had seen gynecologists use in sterilization surgery on women could be adapted to gall bladder removal. They saved the spot for 10 years, but he never came back said Dr. John Ryan Jr., then head of the surgical training at Virginia Mason. A project that Satava's group financed to build a remotely controlled medical robot for the battlefield caught Moll's eye in 1994.
Moll saw scant commercial potential for long-distance surgery, but he became convinced that the technology, being developed by SRI International, a nonprofit contract research firm in Palo Alto, California, could be adapted to make routine surgery much less invasive in the hands of civilian surgeons. Gradually he made efforts to get into remote surgery and in 1995 founded Intuitive Surgical. The future is promising for such technology in remote places on earth where specialized surgeons are not willing to travel or just plain too busy.

Alienware brings forth the "Fastest" gaming notebook yet

Known for their unique style, Alienware has raised some eyebrows with this cool gaming notebook that is powered by NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX SLI graphic cards and a Core 2 Extreme processor. Learning and recognizing those qualities will enable you to make the best choice possible when shopping for you new Plasma, LCD or DLP TV screen.

Plasma TV screens have an advantage of automatic pixel shift technology, which gives the plasma screen a resistance to being damaged by burn in. Of course, the best prevention for decreasing burn in onto your TV screen is not to allow an image to sit on the screen for any length of time.

Plasma TV's are able to create deeper blacks and even better contrast. Plasma also has the advantages of response time, in depth color and is available in larger screen sizes than any other current technology. In plasma TV screens, the size usually starts at 42 inches and upwards. However, a plasma TV does generate more heat and is more prone to display dysfunctional problems due to its change in temperature.

Since Plasma TV's are temperature sensitive, some of them suffer performance problems at high altitudes. Although some manufactures produce plasma TV's that are compatible with high altitudes, but they are more expensive that standard made plasma TV's.

The average screen size of plasma TV's vary from 32 inches to 63 inches, with a 160-degree angle of viewing. Plasma TV's are able to display rapid movement of a video and refresh as well as traditional TV's. Being heavier in weight a plasma TV may require the strong support of a weight-bearing wall while being mounted.

LCD has the advantage of not being inclined to respond negatively to high altitudes, although LCD technology has yet to produce a screen size of over 37 inches due to problems with bad transistors that distort a quality picture. It is possible to use LCD TV screens as computer monitors, as they normally do not suffer burn in, though a ghosting of images may appear on screen due to a pixel charge being retained on the viewing screen. However, LCD TV is also prone to have problems displaying programming from satellite and cable signals.

LCD TV's have a lower contrast ratio that does not produce deep blacks. When their individual pixels burn out, the screen will be marred with tiny missing areas of white and black. Individual pixels cannot be replaced; therefore, the whole screen will need to be replaced. LCD TV's are also less expensive and lightweight which makes for easier transport and installation. Many new LCD TV owners install their on sets easily thereby saving even more money relating to purchase of a new TV. LCD TV's are able to maintain their option levels in well-lit rooms, as they do not reflect much light. LCD TV's also run cooler than plasma TV's.

Most consumers are satisfied with the quality of brightness of both plasma and LCD TV's. As far as thickness of the screens, a plasma screen can be as thin as three inches and an LCD screen can be as thin as two inches. The estimated life span of plasma and LCD TV's seem to be a length of 15 years and up with normal viewing habits.

DLP TV's are usually less expensive than LCD or plasma TV's and they also have the advantage of creating the best quality of picture. DLP TV is also able to HDTV at its fullest resolution. Moreover, they usually do not require maintenance. However, there have been noticeable rainbow effects in the DLP components that employ certain color wheels, as well as DLP having a limit of angle view.

Article Source: http://www.superfeature.com

Comcast Cable Specials And Services

By: Julia Hall

If you want the best when it comes to how you watch TV, surf the Internet, and talk on the phone; then Comcast is the company that you're looking for. That's because Comcast is the only one that can supply you with all of your telecommunications needs in a bundled package that saves you money and provides you with the convenience of only writing one check every month.

The telecommunication services that Comcast Digital Cable TV can bring into your home are truly impressive. For example, the cable TV service takes advantage of all of the latest technology in order to provide you with the most enjoyable viewing experience possible. For example, you'll enjoy all of the benefits of watching TV programming that's delivered using an all digital signal. These great benefits include a crystal clear picture, the same sound quality that's delivered by compact discs, and the ability to manage what you watch with on screen program guide software and parental control software! You can also enjoy all of the benefits of HDTV through Comcast's HDTV channels that come with the larger programming packages. HDTV is a step beyond digital TV with a higher resolution picture that provides an experience very similar to what you'd find in a commercial movie theater.

One type of technology that Comcast is at the forefront of developing is video on demand. With video on demand, you can choose what to watch out of a library of programming and then watch it when you like. In this case it's the central technology in the ON DEMAND pay per view service and is available through the Premiums On Demand subscription add on.

In addition to the technology, Comcast's programming is also very impressive. That's because while you can choose among a variety of programming packages to meet every preference and financial situation, you can choose to subscribe to over two hundred and seventy five channels! These channels include all of your local stations, over two hundred mainstream national cable TV channels, the HDTV channels, and forty five channels of digital music. That's a lot of entertainment no matter how you measure it!

Comcast's high speed Internet service is also a great investment in your family's entertainment and ability to keep up with technological advances. That's because, not only is it affordable but it's also the best Internet service that money can buy for a private home. It takes advantage of the same cable connection that Comcast uses to deliver all of your TV programming. This makes it extremely reliable and fast without the lag time that plagues some competing technologies.
High speed Internet service from Comcast is so fast that everyone in your house can surf the Web at the same time without slowing each other down. This is made easier by the fact that when you sign up for this great service, you'll be given a free wireless router. A wireless router provides a way to network all of your computers to each other and to the cable modem without having cable strung up all over your house. Besides allowing everyone to be online at the same time, a wireless router will also provide mobility in the sense that you'll be able to access the net from anywhere in your home with a device like a laptop computer.

Add Comcast's digital phone service with all of its great features to high speed Internet access and digital cable, and you'll have all of your telecommunications needs satisfied with a very special deal by a single company.

There has never been a better time to switch. Start now. Join the other happy Comcast customers.
Article Source: http://www.superfeature.com

Bluetooth GPS and PDA Explained

By: Rainer Cassell

Have you ever tried to find your way across town (or across the country) using an old-fashioned road map? The only thing trickier than deciphering the directions, is figuring out how to re-fold the map! Today's travelers are finding it much easier to find their way with GPS receivers, PDA devices and Bluetooth technology.

Since GPS devices hit the market a few years ago, traditional navigation devices and roadmaps have been left in the dust. Travelers these days can glance at a GPS screen right in the car, and get clear directions on where to go and how to get there.

A GPS receiver is a small electronic device that can actually calculate your precise location on earth. The GPS is able to decode signals sent from satellites in outer space, and use those signals to tell you where you are at any given time. When combined with specialized software and electronics, the GPS is able to pinpoint an exact location on a map, and give you instructions on how to get there. This fascinating technology becomes even more incredible when you discover that it can be had for a relatively small price.

For increased convenience and usefulness, GPS receivers are often paired with other mobile devices. The PDA is one of the most popular mobile products used for this purpose. With a colored screen that can clearly display maps, and some hard drive space for map storage, PDAs are wonderful partners to GPS receivers. Consider the small size and light weight of a PDA as compared to other options like notebook and laptop computers, and it's easy to see why PDAs have become the first choice of modern navigators.

There is sometimes a problem with the integration of GPS receivers with PDAs. Connection between the two units is usually made using either conventional USB wires, or a CompactFlash (CF) CARD. The size of the GPS and PDA units together, and added to the added bulk of the CF card, can create a cumbersome traveler's tool. On the other hand, using USB wires is inconvenient and limits the overall usability of the navigation device. Many people, therefore, are turning to Bluetooth technology as the perfect traveler's companion.

Bluetooth to the Rescue
Bluetooth wireless technology has become the open standard for wireless communication. Using Bluetooth technology, two electronic devices are able to communicate with each other, sending a receiving signals and transferring data, from up to ten meters away. The beauty of this technology is that the information is transmitted completely wire-free.

Bluetooth GPS Receivers
A Bluetooth GPS receiver is a device that uses wireless Bluetooth technology or Bluetooth electronics to transmit GPS data to a second mobile device that is capable of handling the same technology. In other words, a Bluetooth GPS receiver can only send data to a PDA that is also enabled with built-in Bluetooth capabilities.

In addition to the ease and convenience of avoiding bulky CompactFlash cards and messy wires, there are other benefits to using Bluetooth technology with your GPS/PDA combination:

Wireless Connection
Many drivers prefer to have the GPS mounted securely positioned, while keeping the PDA where it can be clearly viewed. Bluetooth allows this wire-free convenience. You are able to position your Bluetooth GPS receiver in a spot where it can clearly pick up signals from the sky, while your PDA is mounted on the dashboard in front of you. There are no wires to hamper your driving or obstruct your view.

CompactFlash Slot Space
If you are using Bluetooth technology to transmit data, you'll have no need to plug in a CompactFlash card. The empty CF slot, therefore, can be used as a storage space for software or maps to further optimize the results of your GPS.

Many travelers are able to get even greater benefits from their GPS receivers. Some units come with handy companion features like pre-stored maps, route re-calculation (perfect in the case of road detours) and POI (points of interest) databases that show you popular tourist attractions en route.

So, whether your travels are taking you to the next neighborhood or another country, don't leave home without your GPS and PDA bundled with Bluetooth technology.

Article Source: http://www.superfeature.com

Making USB Devices Even More Convenient

By: Sammy Garf

USB (Universal Serial Bus) has revolutionized the way we connect peripherals to our computers. Replacing standard serial connections, USB has become the standard for connecting everything from printers to fans to toys to memory drives. With advancements in modern operating systems, USB devices are almost always easy to install. These devices are low power, reliable, and versatile.

In this article, we will explore some of the benefits of USB devices and how to make using USB devices even more convenient.

Ever since Windows 98, USB devices have been automatically detected when plugged in. The computer’s operating system will automatically try to find the drivers needed for the device and install them. If the drivers can not be found, a simple google search will often pull up what is needed.

The devices you choose are up to you and what you are trying to accomplish. Many people have very standard USB devices like printers, a mouse, keyboard, etc. These are great, but what if you want to do more with that little rectangular port? Fortunately, there are a lot of options out there.

One thing many people find useful is a USB snake light. These flexible lights plug right in and can provide your nighttime work area with a little light to help you see the keyboard and your work area. Getting even more wacky, USB toys such as small anti-coworker missile launchers, shavers, and more.

If you plan on having many USB devices at once, it is a good idea to get a hub. Not only will this give you more ports than what your computer provides on its own, but it will allow you to provide your devices with more reliable power. This is because many USB hubs are externally powered. With many USB devices hooked up to your computer, sometimes you can get power surges or other power problems, and these are never good for the delicate electronics inside USB devices. A powered hub alleviates this problem and makes sure your devices are getting clean, constant power - especially power hogs like USB-connected disk drives.

Sometimes you may want to share one USB device with many computers. There are several ways that you can accomplish this. One way is to use a device server. Device servers make your USB device available to anyone on a network. This a great solution for a printer that is used by more than one person in an office or home.

The main drawback of USB device servers is their cost. These servers are not cheap as they combine a USB hub and network connectivity in one box. Still, despite the cost they are the best choice for some people.

Another solution is to use a USB peripheral switch. These switches work locally between two or more computers and allow you to switch your devices between those computers. You could, for example, connect a printer to a peripheral switch and then connect the peripheral switch to two computers. Computer “A” can print transparently through the switch without any problems. When computer “B” is ready to print, the switch is simply activated and now that station is connected to the printer.

A switch is great for people who don’t need the solution of a full blown server, but still need to share USB devices. They are expandable and reliable. Many switches are even automatic. They will switch between the connected computers whenever one tries to access the USB device and the user will never need to touch a thing.

USB peripheral switches are a good choice because they are inexpensive and reliable. They start at around a third of the price as a USB device server and often solve the same problems. USB peripheral switches are also available with ports for several devices or several computers, depending on what is needed.

No matter what you situation, there are always solutions out there for you. USB peripheral switches and USB device servers will help you solve many USB device sharing problems around the home, home office, or small business.

Article Source: http://www.superfeature.com
